Opening Ceremony Dukar Sand Mandala

  • 7533 Green Valley Road Placerville, CA, 95667 United States (map)

Suggested Donation: $20 per person
Face Masks Required

This exciting event begins with the Tibetan Monks of Gaden Shartse monastery performing the cleansing and blessing ceremony in preparation for the daily work on the sand mandala.

The sand mandala is laid down one grain of sand at a time.

The Tibetan diety Dukar (aka White Parasol or White Umbrella), is traditionally represented by a white umbrella which symbolizes her ability to protect all sentient beings from negative forces, including natural catastrophes and disease.

She was chosen by the monks as a very special offering and prayer for our community in response to the devestation suffered from the Caldor Fire. We hope you will join us.

This event is part of a visit by the Gaden Shartse monastery monks to 7533 Green Valley Road, Placerville. For full schedule see Placerville Friends of Tibet on Facebook. All proceeds support the Gaden Shartse Monastery located in southern India. Everyone is welcome!
